چکیده

Given a discrete-valued sample X1, . . . ,Xn, we wish to decide whether it was generated by a distribution belonging to a family H0, or it was generated by a distribution belonging to a family H1. In this work we assume that all distributions are stationary ergodic and do not make any further assumptions (in particular, no independence or mixing rate assumptions). We find some necessary and some sufficient conditions, formulated in terms of the topological properties of H0 and H1, for the existence of a consistent test. For the case where H1 is the complement of H0 (to the set of all stationary ergodic processes), these necessary and sufficient conditions coincide, thereby providing a complete characterization of families of processes membership to which can be consistently tested, against their complement, based on sampling. This criterion includes as special cases several known and some new results on testing for membership to various parametric families, as well as testing identity, independence, and other hypotheses.

Problems of Statistical Inference for Birth and Death Queueing Models

A large sample theory is presented for birth and death queuelng processes which are ergodic and metrically transitive. The theory is applied to make inferences about how arrival and service rates vary with the number in the system. Likelihood ratio tests and maximum likelihood estimators are derived for simple models which describe this variation. Composite hypotheses such as that the arrival r...

Unified Bayesian and Conditional Frequentist Testing for Discrete Distributions

Testing of hypotheses for discrete distributions is considered in this paper. The goal is to develop conditional frequentist tests that allow the reporting of datadependent error probabilities such that the error probabilities have a strict frequentist interpretation and also reflect the actual amount of evidence in the observed data. The resulting randomized tests are also seen to be Bayesian ...

On the Goodness-of-Fit Testing for Ergodic Diffusion Processes

We consider the goodness of fit testing problem for ergodic diffusion processes. The basic hypothesis is supposed to be simple. The diffusion coefficient is known and the alternatives are described by the different trend coefficients. We study the asymptotic distribution of the Cramer-von Mises type tests based on the empirical distribution function and local time estimator of the invariant den...

Statistical analysis of stochastic resonance with ergodic diffusion noise

A subthreshold signal is transmitted through a channel and may be detected when some noise – with known structure and proportional to some level – is added to the data. There is an optimal noise level, called stochastic resonance, that corresponds to the highest Fisher information in the problem of estimation of the signal. As noise we consider an ergodic diffusion process and the asymptotic is...

When is an Interacting Particle System Ergodic?

We consider stochastic flip dynamics for an infinite number of Ising spins on the lattice Έ. We find a sequence of constructive criteria for the system to be exponentially ergodic. The main idea is to approximate the continuous time process with discrete time processes (its Euler polygon) and to use an improved version of previous results [MS] about constructive ergodicity of discrete time proc...
